Developments in the previous twenty years have placed child abuse and neglect on the public agenda in a way not previously observed. State estimates for 2013 are readily available from the US Department of Wellness and Human Services (See Tables 3-1, by means of three-6, and 3-8 through 3-15). For instance, in California , a caregiver can withhold health-related care from their sick kid and have a priest pray for recovery, and the caregiver would probably not be guilty of neglect – even though courts regularly order medical care in such cases.

On the other hand, an audit of all main and secondary youngster abuse prevention programs presently becoming conducted by the National Child Protection Clearing House has confirmed that, in common, kid abuse prevention activities are not broadly readily available and do not cover all forms of abuse.
